Do you want a very complete description of the Project Gunrunner/Operation Fast and Furious scandal? One with a ton of facts in chronological order? One that will chill your bones?
Just CLICK HERE to read Pauline Arrillaga's comprehensive analysis for the Associated Press.
My only dispute with Ms. Arrillaga - and, unfortunately, it is a major one - is that she has let the two men who may well be the root of this scandal off the hook. Buried in the text of her piece is this:
Attorney General Eric Holder has ordered the Justice Department's Office of Inspector General to look into what happened, and Obama has vowed to take "appropriate actions."
Just who do you think gave the orders for a project of this magnitude, Ms. Arrillaga? Do you think neither of these two men were directly involved? I certainly hope you know better, and wish you had said as much.
But, other than the (seemingly requisite) absolution of Mr. Obama and holder, this article is an excellent tutorial on what Project Gunrunner/Operation Fast and Furious started out as, what it became, what it caused, and how the subsequent coverup has progressed. I urge you to read it.
Zeke ............ "By 2009, the ATF was reporting that some 90 percent of the weapons Mexican authorities recovered and submitted for tracing originated in the United States" ............ That is Washington-Speak. "Submitted for tracing" is the key weasel phrase. ............ Only a SMALL percentage of weapons the Mexicans captured were considered by them to have originated in the US. Those they suspected came from the US were given to the US to verify. Turns out, the Mexicans guess right in 90% of the cases. ............ Most of the weapons seized in Mexico either came from OTHER sources (presumably including all automatic weapons, including submachine guns and assault rifles), or were not correctly identified as being from the US. ............ There is speculation that the REAL purpose of this eFF'ing (Fast & Furious) exercise was to 'show Americans that our gun culture' was responsible for Mexico's gun difficulties, and therefore, the 2nd amendment needs to be ignored. ............
