Barack Obama's one-man crusade to prevent BAIPA (the Born Alive Infant
Protection Act) from becoming law in Illinois is an albatross around his neck
the size of an Airbus.
And it damn well should be.
As readers of this blog know, BAIPA was created to protect children whose
mothers wanted them aborted, but were born alive anyway. Plainly and
simply, the law says that if a child - even an unwanted child - is born alive, it
has the full protection of any other live child.
BAIPA legislation was created because babies, whose "crime" was
surviving an abortion attempt, were being left to die. This is NOT a
misprint or a typo. It was actually happening.
And for years, as a member of the Illinois state senate,
Barack Obama did his level best to keep
them dying, by preventing BAIPA legislation from being enacted into law.
Once Mr. Obama was no longer an Illinois state senator
the BAIPA legislation passed without any problem whatsoever. Similarly, it passed in the pre-Obama
US senate without even one "no" vote. Not from Ted
Kennedy, not from Barbara Boxer, not from anyone.
Until now, Mr. Obama's lame excuse was that he had been concerned that BAIPA would be used
by pro-lifers to restrict abortion rights.
You might wonder how that could be, since the act
specifically applied to children outside
the womb. Me too.
Well here, courtesy of Michelle Malkin, is the proof that Barack Obama was lying when he said
this. That's right, Barack Obama was lying.
Take a look, read the "paper trail" link, and see the incontrovertible proof
with your own eyes:
Obama’s abortion lies

There’s a newly uncovered paper trail
demonstrating Barack Obama’s abortion militancy you can believe in (hat tip -
Jill Stanek):
Newly obtained documents prove that in 2003,
Barack Obama, as chairman of an IL state Senate committee, voted down a bill
to protect live-born survivors of abortion - even after the panel had amended
the bill to contain verbatim language, copied from a federal bill passed by
Congress without objection in 2002, explicitly foreclosing any impact on
abortion. Obama’s legislative actions in 2003 - denying effective protection
even to babies born alive during abortions - were contrary to the position
taken on the same language by even the most liberal members of Congress. The
bill Obama killed was virtually identical to the federal bill that even NARAL
ultimately did not oppose.
The NRLC’s Obama paper trail index is here.
That plain enough for you? Barack Obama is lying about BAIPA.
For years, live children were jeopardized. An unknown number were left
to die without care, because BAIPA legislation was not enacted. And
the reason it was not enacted was primarily because Mr. Obama blocked
it.
This is an issue that will not - can not - go away. We deserve a real answer from Barack Obama about why he
did this. Not a lie to appease abortion advocates and make fools of
us all.
