Can the Obama administration be anymore tone deaf?
After pushing his $1.1 trillion Generational Theft Act of 2009 through the House
last night, the White House apparently decided to throw itself a swank cocktail
party. According to ABC’s Jake Tapper,
the menu included alcoholic beverages (vodka martinis are an Obama favorite,
reportedly) and wagyu steak.
Yeah, “wagyu steak.” $100 per
serving delicacy. I had to look it up, too.
On the heels of the most expensive inaugural
celebration in American history
and passage of a trillion-dollar spending binge that will saddle future
generations with unprecedented debt, perhaps President Obama might consider
cutting back on such indulgences.
Or is the White House exempt from “shared
sacrifice,” Mr. President?
“New era of responsibility?”
Not so
much.
Seems to me, she's got a point. Wouldn't you say?
Look, I'm not in love with jumping on Mr. Obama for something like this
so early in his administration. But, dammit, where is his brain?
What is he thinking? The country is hovering between recession and
depression, and he's using our tax money for $100-a-serving steak dinners?
That's what mugabe would do in Zimbabwe. That's what tinhorn
dictators do.
I guess you can take the politician out of Chicago, but you can't take
Chicago out of the politician.
Besides, I'll bet Sasha and Malia would have preferred McDonald's
happy meals over wagyu steak 100 times out of 100. And you can get those for only a few bucks - drink
and fries included.
Ken Berwitz Mimi - You're missing the point. We are in terrible economic times. The President is expected to show leadership, part of which is leading by example. This was not some state dinner for visiting royalty, it was a get-together of politicians. The most expensive cuts of steak in a really good specialty store go for less than half of what wagyu steak costs. Is that necessary? How does it look to people who have lost their jobs and their pensions? Now, tie it in to the $150 - $175 million dollar inaugural and you see not an isolated situation but an attitude. Be honest, if this had been George Bush, what would you be saying about it? What would the media be saying about it? (01/30/09)

I do know cooking.com sells that type meat for $65 for a 14 oz. serving. Michelle Malkin eats a lot of appetizers?
